As we discussed in previous post about how much Google is serious concerning smart phone sites and their rankings change in future, Google also provided smartphone specific crawl errors tab in webmaster tools.
No doubt, smartphone websites or mobile development is next big thing in internet world, so today Google published some important checklist for mobile sites improvements; we will discuss those points here:
- First thing in improvement process is to verify your mobile website in WMT, so that you can know what type of crawl errors are in your website
- If you add Google Analytics, that will be added benefits for checking traffic, sources , countries and target for your mobile base website
- Double check that you do no use JavaScript pop ups, those ads bad user experience and never works on mobile sites
- Never use overlays for mobile website, seeing the limited keyboard and screen functions, you should avoid overlays
- Avoid such features which require plugins such as flash player to work, these are not supported by smartphones
- Identify high traffic mobile pages and make sure those are correct
- Enable compression for fast processing
- Avoid un-necessary redirects
- Try to minimize the use of resources and use cache
- Make sure to optimize the images for fast opening
- You can also compare page load time of yours and your competitor to optimize it further
- Make sure that java scripts and CSS unblocked in robots.txt
- Responsive design: Be sure to include CSS @media query
- Separate mobile site: add rel=alternate media and rel=canonical
