Google today, introduced one extra tab for Smartphone Crawl Errors in Google Webmaster Tools, the purpose of this option to make webmasters aware of Smartphone specific errors that bots or users face while surfing websites via Smartphones.
A few months back, Google cautioned webmasters that in the future the rankings on smartphones may change due to these errors. More and more people are using phones these days to retrieve information from websites as compared to desktops due to the ease of availability and feasibility of using it anywhere at any time, So Google has given specific instructions on how to avoid usability, technical and browsing errors in Smartphones.
The new option will show all the errors which Google bot detected with smartphones like unwanted redirection or error pages while comparing the same pages with desktop crawls where information was available for users. Google assumes this as misconfiguration for smartphones, while some information is available for desktop users, and there is error or redirection when accessed from smartphones.
Following errors are shown in this tab
- Server Errors: When error code was returned by the HTTP protocol
- 404 Error Pages: A Soft or Hard 404 pages
- Faulty Redirects: When desktop pages redirect users to 404 or any unwanted pages like home page
- Blocked URL’s: Pages that are blocked by robots file for smartphones
Fixing this type of problem will get you a better ranking on smartphones so that you do not miss traffic from mobile users.
